SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Former Shepherd All-American outfielder Brenton Doyle has been recalled by the Colorado Rockies from the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes today. Doyle is slated to make his major league debut as the starter in center field. The Rockies travel to Cleveland to face the Guardians tonight.
Doyle was a fourth-round pick of Rockies in the 2019 MLB Draft. He was the 129th overall pick and the first NCAA Division II player chosen in the draft. Doyle was a two-time All-American for the Rams and was the MEC Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019. Doyle also garnered Academic All-American honors.
Doyle will be the first former Shepherd baseball player to be on a major league roster since Charles "Lefty" Willis played for the Philadelphia Athletics from 1925-27. Willis played at Shepherd from 1922-23.
