Shepherd Baseball Quintet Earns CSC Academic All-District Honors

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Five members of the Shepherd University baseball team have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team today. Senior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb), senior pitcher Nate Hodgkinson (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion), senior pitcher Tanner Dixon (Frederick, Md./Frederick), junior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport), and redshirt-sophomore pitcher Brenden Lewis (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) were honored. 

Mulhall boasts a 3.6 grade point average as a business major. Mulhall led the Rams with a .395 batting average with 66 hits in 167 at-bats. He also topped the team in total bases (117), hits (66), runs batted in (51), doubles (18), and home runs (11). His 47 runs scored and 10 hit-by-pitch tied for the team lead. He was 8-of-9 in stolen bases.   

Hodgkinson boasts a 3.89 grade point average as a biology major. He posted a 2-2 mark and a save with a 6.63 ERA. Hodgkinson fanned 13 and walked 11 in 19.0 innings.  

Dixon boasts a 4.0 grade point average as a recreation and sport studies major. He posted a 2-1 mark and a save with a 7.78 ERA. He fanned 24 and walked 19 in 19.2 innings. 

Jamison boasts a 3.8 grade point average as a health promotion and exercise science major. He batted .145 with eight hits in 55 at-bats. He drove in three runs and scored 13. He added a double and was 9-of-10 in stolen bases. 

Lewis boasts a 4.0 grade point average as a recreation and sport studies major. He recorded a 4-2 mark and a save with a 4.29 ERA. His four wins tied for most on the team. He fanned 25 and walked 13 in 21.0 innings.             

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.   Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 7.
