SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Four Shepherd University cross country student-athletes have gained 2023 CSC Academic All-District® Track and Field/Cross Country Team honors as announced on Wednesday. Senior Mahayana Garcia (Shepherdstown, W.Va./Jefferson)  and senior Anna Berwanger (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) of the women's cross country team and graduate student Stephen Rivera (Kearneysville, W.Va./Home Schooled) and sophomore Jonathan Weller (Martinsburg, W.Va./Spring Mills) of the men's cross country team were honored. 

Garcia boasts a 3.5 grade point average as an environmental science major. Garcia participated in four meets. She placed third on the team or better in every meet. She placed second on the team in the Lock Haven Invitational and the PSAC Championship. 

Berwanger boasts a 3.83 grade point average as a social work major. Berwanger participated in four meets. She finished fifth on the team or better in every meet. She was third on the team at the DII/DIII Challenge at Kutztown University 

Rivera boasts a 3.95 grade point average as a business administration major as an undergraduate with a 4.0 GPA while pursuing an MBA. He participated in four meets. He finished fifth on the team or better in every meet. He finished third on the team in the Lock Haven Invitational. 

Weller boasts a 3.82 grade point average as an accounting major. Weller participated in five meets. He finished eighth on the team or better in every meet. He finished fourth on the team at the PSAC Championship 

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 29.
