SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University head men's basketball coach
Justin Namolik announced today that two student-athletes will continue their basketball careers for the Rams this upcoming 2023-24 season.
Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist), a 6-2 guard, led his team to a 24-3 and the MISAL championship by averaging 15 points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals. He was named Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
"Marcus has all the tools to be a very good point guard," stated Namolik. "He is a very good defender, he understands pace on offense, and he can get to the paint to create offense for himself and others."
Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown), a 6-5 guard, led his team to a 26-2 record and a second straight WV AAAA state championship. He was named first team All-State after averaging 15 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
"In addition to being a great shooter, Brody is a great teammate who knows how to lead," said Namolik. "He will develop into a very good shooting guard for us as he improves defensively and adjusts to the college level."
In addition to these two student-athletes, the Rams welcome two redshirt-freshmen from last season,
Michael Cooper and
Colton Hartman.
Michael Cooper (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge), a 6-3 guard, led his team to a 15-8 record during the 21-22 season by averaging 16 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. He was first team All-District, first team All-Region, and second team All-State selection.
"Michael is an athletic, slashing guard that can guard multiple perimeter players," stated Namolik. "I think he can develop into a very good player for us as he improves his shooting and learns our system."
Colton Hartman (Saint Thomas, Pa./St. Maria Goretti), a 6-10 forward, averaged 13.4 points and 6.7 rebounds at James Buchanan before transferring to St. Maria Goretti for his senior season.
"Colton is a strong inside player that has good athleticism for his size," said Namolik. "He has potential to improve and I think his best basketball is still in front of him."
"This recruiting class is immensely talented and they have the potential to do great things at Shepherd," stated Namolik. "All four of these student-athletes have a strong work ethic, are great teammates, and have all the tools to be great leaders. These are the traits that will ensure they reach their full potential."
