SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior midfielder Delaney Bittner (York, Pa./Red Lion Area Senior) and sophomore forward Lydia Gable (Felton, Pa./Kennard Dale) each scored a pair of goals to lead Shepherd to a 6-2 win over Chowan at Shepherd on Wednesday morning.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead at the 8:05 mark when Bittner scored on a pass from freshman midfielder Annabelle Wunderlich (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area).
The Rams took a 2-0 advantage when Gable scored on a Wunderlich feed at the 30:29 mark.
Minutes later Gable scored on a pass from Wunderlich at the 32:48 mark to give the Rams a 3-0 advantage at the break.
Chowan opened the second half scoring as Natasha Bailey scored on a pass from Karla Artolozaga at the 49:50 mark.
The Hawks narrowed the gap to 3-2 when Bailey scored on a feed from Laura Hulme at the 75:18 mark.
Shepherd closed the game with three unanswered goals to seal the win.
Sophomore midfielder Josie Beezel (Woodsboro, Md./Linganore) scored on an assist from sophomore midfielder Adrianna Morales (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) at the 82:37 mark, Wunderlich scored on a feed from Gable at the 83:28 mark, and Bittner found the back of the net at the 84:09 mark on a pass from graduate student forward/midfielder Sara Hohn (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson).
Junior goalkeeper Alayna Burgamy (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson/Pitt-Johnstown) recorded five saves for the Rams. Kirsten Petersen (72:02, 3 GA, 7 saves) and Gracie Ross (17:38, 3 GA, 2 saves) combined for nine saves for the Hawks.
Shepherd had a 26-7 edge in shots with a 15-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Rams had a 19-2 edge in corner kicks.
