GREENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman kicker Keith Baker (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) connected on a 25-yard field goal with 1:10 left in the third quarter to lift Shepherd (5-5) to a 13-10 win over Seton Hill (3-8) in football action at Seton Hill on Saturday.
Jack Wagner connected on a 32-yard field goal with 3:52 left in the first quarter to give Seton Hill a 3-0 lead.
The Griffins upped their lead to 10-0 when Ky'Ron Craggette scored on a 40-yard run with 6:13 left in the second quarter.
Shepherd cut the lead to 10-7 when redshirt junior quarterback Lek Powell (Carlisle, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) teamed with senior wide receiver Barry Hill (Highland Springs, Va./Varina/West Virginia State) on a three-yard scoring pass with 4:02 left in the half. The touchdown was set up by a 48-yard run by redshirt sophomore running back Jordan Barnett (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge/FUMA/Southern Utah).
Shepherd tied the game at 10-10 when Baker connected on a 28-yard field goal with 8:48 left in the third quarter.
The score was set up by a 70-yard kickoff return by sophomore defensive back Miles Greer (Springfield, Va./South County).
Shepherd had 278 yards of total offense while Seton Hill totaled 249.
Powell completed 6-of-11 passes for 66 yards for the Rams. Redshirt freshman quarterback Ezra Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) connected on 5-of-7 passes for 54 yards in relief of Powell. Jake Cruz completed 15-of-25 passes for 150 yards for the Griffins.
Redshirt senior running back Malakai Brown (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) topped the Rams with 19 carries for 86 yards. Barnett added 79 yards on 12 carries. Craggette had 17 carries for 85 yards to pace Seton Hill.
Brown also led the Shepherd receivers with six catches for 82 yards. Cody Rubrecht had four catches for 41 yards and Todd Phillips added three grabs for 46 yards to pace the Griffins.
Redshirt freshman linebacker Brodie Carroll (Catharpin, Va./Battlefield) had a team-high nine tackles (six solos) for the Rams. Redshirt junior defensive back Geo-Di Tolbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass/Fairmont State) added eight stops (five solos) and an interception. Sophomore defensive back Miles Greer (Springfield, Va./South County) added eight tackles (four solos) and a pair of pass breakups, while junior linebacker JT Kouame-Yao (Centreville, Va./Westfield) recorded seven tackles (three solos) with 3.5 tackles-for-loss (-10 yards ) and 1.5 sacks (-5 yards). D'Kaire Boone had a game-high 11 tackles (six solos) for the Griffins.
Redshirt senior punter Ryan Barrick (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) punted three times for a 39.7 average. He placed one punt inside the 20-yard line and had a long punt of 47 yards.
Shepherd completes its season at 6-5.
