at the 80:51 mark to lift 14th-ranked Shepherd University (16-1-4) to a 3-2 win over Kutztown (11-4-6) in PSAC Women's Soccer Tournament final action at Gannon on Sunday afternoon. This marks the first PSAC title for any Shepherd team. The Rams recorded their ninth straight victory.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead when Peternel scored on a pass from junior midfielder
Adrianna Morales (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) at the 18:00 mark.
Kutztown got an unassisted goal by Corinne Morgan at the 24:23 mark to tie the game.
Morgan opened the second half scoring when she scored on a pass from Joslyn Stoltz to give the Golden Bears a 2-1 advantage.
Junior midfielder
Josie Beezel (Woodsboro, Md./Linganore) netted an unassisted goal at the 79:57 mark to tie the game and set the stage for Peternel's game-winner.
Shepherd had an 11-7 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. Kutztown had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Hannah Wilt (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) did not record a save for the Rams. Cassidy Howes had one save for the Golden Bears.
Peternel's standout play in the tournament earned her Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.
The Rams await word on seeding for the upcoming regional tournament.
