Shepherd Men Downed by Bowie State

BOWIE, Md. – Kevon Corley scored 13 points and Warren Mouganda added 11 to lead Bowie State (4-4) to a 62-56 win over Shepherd University (4-3) in men's basketball action at Bowie State on Wednesday.

Graduate student forward Chase Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) led the Rams with 14 points and six rebounds. He connected on 6-of-10 field goals with a 2-of-3 effort from the foul line.

Freshman guard Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added 13 points and sophomore forward Cole Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) tossed in 11. Senior guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) added six points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Freshman guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick)  dished out a game-high seven assists.

Amare Wimbush added 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Bowie State had a 37-23 lead at halftime.

Shepherd trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half but rallied to within four points at 60-56 after Davis drained a three-pointer with 1:02 remaining. Wimbush sank a pair of free throws for the Bulldogs in the final seconds to seal the win.

Shepherd connected on 36.9 percent (24-65) of its field goals with a 24 percent (6-25) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 49 percent (2-5) of their free throws.

Bowie State shot 48.9 percent (22-45) from the floor with a 26.7 percent (4-15) effort from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs hit 73.7 percent (14-19) from the foul line.

Bowie State had a 31-21 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 15.

The Rams return to action on Dec. 6 when they host Indiana (Pa.) for a 5 p.m. contest.
