Five Rams Gain United Soccer Coaches Women’s Soccer All-Region Honors; Shepherd Staff Honored

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Five members of the Shepherd University women's soccer team have been named to the 2024 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women's All-Atlantic Region Team. Senior midfielder Delaney Bittner (York, Pa./Red Lion Area Senior), junior forward Lydia Gable (Felton, Pa./Kennard Dale), sophomore midfielder Annabelle Wunderlich (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area), and freshman goalkeeper Hannah Wilt ( Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) were first team selections,  while senior midfielder Sarah Peternel (Wolfeboro, NH/Virtual Learning Academy Charter School/University of New Hampshire) was a second team selection. Additionally, the Shepherd coaching staff of head coach Sam Odell and assistants Patrick Grey, Sam Greene, and Paris Kimbrell were honored as the Division II Atlantic Region Staff of the Year.

Bittner appeared and started in all 24 games. The 2024 PSAC East Defender of the Year anchored a Shepherd defense that has recorded a record 11 shutouts on the year and has allowed just one goal in 10 contests. Bittner has added three assists for three points this season.

Gable appeared in all 24 games with 23 starts. She led the Rams in scoring with 12 goals and eight assists for 32 points. Her five game-winning goals tie Peternel for the team lead. She scored the game-winner in Shepherd's 2-1 win over West Virginia State in second round action of the NCAA II Atlantic Regionals.

Wunderlich appeared and started in all 24 games. She has recorded eight goals and seven assists for 23 points. She tallied three game-winning goals and assisted on Peternel's game-winning goal in the PSAC Championship game.

Wilt appeared and started in all 24 games. The 2024 PSAC East Freshman of the Year, Wilt posted an 0.75 goals against average with 75 saves with a .806 save percentage. Her 11 shutouts this season set a new program record.

Peternel appeared and started in 23 games for the Rams. She recorded 10 goals and four assists for 24 points. Her five game-winning goals tie Lydia Gable for the team lead. Her five game-winning goals are also a Shepherd single-season record. She was named 2024 PSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after recording four goals and two assists in the tourney. She scored the game-winners in the opening game against Bloomsburg and in the finals against Kutztown.

Odell and his staff led the Rams to a record-setting 18-2-4 record with a 13-1-2 conference mark as PSAC East Champions. The Rams finished the season as the PSAC Champions, Atlantic Region Champions, and advanced to the national quarterfinals.
