Shepherd Baseball Splits Pair with UVa-Wise

WISE, Va. – Shepherd University (2-2) split with UVa-Wise (2-2) in baseball doubleheader action at Wise on Sunday. The Rams recorded a 10-6 victory in game one, while UVa-Wise posted an 8-7 win in the nightcap.
 
The Rams used a 14-hit attack en route to the game one win.
 
Redshirt-junior outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC) went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles to pace the Rams. He drove in a pair of runs and scored another. Redshirt-junior infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC) belted a pair of homers. He had a solo blast in the third and added a two-run shot to key a five-run fifth inning.
 
Junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland) smacked three hits and redshirt-junior outfielder Trey Sine (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) added a pair.
 
Redshirt-junior pitcher Brenden Lewis (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) (3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 K, 0 BB) (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Nash Bingham (0.2 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
 
Senior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook), Miles, and Borges each had a pair of hits for the Rams in the nightcap.
 
Borges and graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) each belted a two-run home run.
 
Cole Harness went 1-for-2 with a two-run blast to pace the Highland Cavaliers
 
Dewees hit a two-run blast in the sixth to tie the game at 7-7 before Justin Reed hit a solo homer in the bottom of the frame to give Wise the win.        
 
Mason Johns (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 K, 1 BB) (1-0) gained the win. Hunter Anderson (1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 0 K, 1 BB) secured the save. Redshirt-freshman pitcher Oliver Leonard (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) (3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
 
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to UNC Pembroke for a noon doubleheader.
