HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Shepherd University men's and women's tennis teams split a pair of matches with Catholic University at Hilton Head on Thursday. The Shepherd men (2-7) dropped a 4-2 decision to Catholic (7-4), while the women (2-4) handed Catholic (5-6) a 6-1 setback. The men's team added a 4-3 win over Messiah (0-7) in a later match.

Senior Nicholas Espinoza (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Aleman Humboldt/Iowa Central Community College) and junior Jeremy Williams (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County/Wooster) each posted singles wins for the Rams against Catholic. Junior Khalid Alsadek (Irvine, Calif./Fountain Valley/Orange Coast College) and senior Arka Genguly (Pune, India/McDonald College) teamed for a 6-3 win at number one doubles.

Senior Marketa Beladova (Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic/Iowa Central Community College) and senior Marketa Beladova (Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic/Iowa Central Community College) each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles play for the women against the Cardinals.

Freshman Curry Taylor (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane), Genguly, Espinoza, and Williams all posted singles wins against Messiah. Genguly and Espinoza also posted an 8-1 win at number one doubles.

The men return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 2 p.m. The women are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Bowie State for a 1 p.m. match.
