Shepherd Baseball Sweeps Lock Haven; Rams Eclipse 20-Win Mark

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Shepherd University (21-25, 14-18 PSAC East) swept a doubleheader with Lock Haven (11-34, 8-24 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball action at Lock Haven on Friday. The Rams recorded a 3-1 win in game one and added a 7-1 triumph in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first inning in game one on RBI-singles by graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and senior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook).

Shepherd added a run in the second as junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland) walked, stole second, and advanced to third on an error. He later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of redshirt-junior second baseman Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC).

Lock Haven scored a run in the fifth as Cam Gracey reached on an error and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Lance Baldensperger.

Redshirt-junior pitcher Trevor Sharp (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) (5.0 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) (3-4) earned the win. Sophomore pitcher Brayden Stottlemyer (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 K, 1 BB) picked up the save (1). Kevin Worek (7.0 IP. 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 K, 3 BB) (2-6) took the loss.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the second in the nightcap when Borges reached on a walk and later scored on a passed ball.

The Rams added five runs on five hits in the third to take a 6-0 lead. Redshirt-junior outfielder Clay Maholic (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Potomac State) smacked a two-run single to highlight the rally.

Lock Haven got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third on an RBI-single from Greg Christino.

Shepherd completed the scoring with a run in the fifth as junior catcher Brayden Meskill (Bordentown, N.J./Notre Dame/Mercer County CC) reached on a single and later scored on a single off the bat of senior first baseman Jared Hall (Eastlake, Ohio/Willoughby South).

Senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) went 3-for-5 with a double to lead the Rams.

Graduate student pitcher Tanner Dixon (Frederick, Md./Frederick) (4.0 IP, 8 H 1 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) (2-2) picked up the win. Redshirt-junior pitcher Daniel Keane (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) (3.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 K, 1 BB) gained the save (1). Andrew Kramer (3.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) (1-2) took the loss.
