SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University will adopt a new policy at two sports venues this fall in compliance with new state legislation.
 
Starting with the Fall 2024 season, only clear plastic bags will be allowed into sporting events in Ram Stadium and the Butcher Center Arena.
 
The clear bags must be no larger than 12 in. x 12 in. x 6 in.
 
There are exceptions, including medically necessary bags, diaper bags when children are present, and small clutch purses measuring 4.5 in. x 6.5 in. or smaller.
 
Shepherd University Athletic Director Carrie Bodkins said she wants fans to know what to expect before the season starts.
 
"We recognize this is a change," Bodkins said. "But the new practice will help ensure that fans can enter sporting events promptly and with fewer potential searches as our dedicated law enforcement officers work to keep our campus safe."
