SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University Athletic Director Carrie Bodkins announced today that Andrew Kowalo has been named head baseball coach.
"We are excited to welcome Andrew to the Shepherd University family," said Bodkins. "Being a West Virginia native and having ties in the region were a selling point. His previous coaching experience at Potomac State and Liberty University as well as being the Director of Baseball for Prep Baseball Report in the Northeast made him an ideal hire. He brings an unwavering energy and work ethic that will help to transform the program with a vision for development, growth, and success."
Kowalo comes to Shepherd after serving as an assistant coach at Liberty University since 2022.
"I couldn't be more excited to become the next head baseball coach at Shepherd University," said Kowalo. "I am very thankful to have been selected to take over this historical baseball program. Coming back to my home state to begin my head coaching career is a great opportunity. I want to thank Carrie Bodkins for believing in me to lead this baseball program. My family and I are excited to become part of the Shepherd University family."
Prior to working at Liberty, Kowalo was an assistant at Potomac State for two years. He also previously worked as a volunteer assistant on the staff at Virginia Military Institute.
Kowalo also had stints working for Prep Baseball Report in New York and Pennsylvania and for the GSP Baseball Training Center.
A 2018 graduate of Liberty University, Kowalo was the starting second baseman for the Flames for the 2017-18 seasons. He hit .270 with 13 home runs, 74 runs batted in, and 68 runs scored over those two seasons. He posted a .389 on-base percentage in 110 games. He started all 55 games as a senior.
Prior to playing at Liberty, Kowalo played two seasons at Potomac State. He hit .317 with a .458 on-base percentage and .507 slugging percentage in 2014 and posted a .405 batting average with a .510 on-base percentage in 2015. He helped lead the Catamounts to the Region XX Championship in 2015.
