Shepherd Women’s Soccer Captures PSAC Title

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- Shepherd University (11-1-6) handed Kutztown (13-5-1) a 4-1 setback to capture the PSAC Women's Soccer Championship at West Chester on Sunday afternoon.

Senior defender Erika Moore (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) scored an unassisted goal at the 2:34 mark to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Senior midfielder Josie Beezel (Woodsboro, Md./Linganore), who was named the Tournament MVP, scored on a pass from sophomore midfielder Anaya Lozano (Chesapeake, Va./Atlantic Shores Christian School) at the 7:11 mark to up the lead to 2-0.

The Rams took a 3-0 advantage into the break when senior forward Lydia Gable (Felton, Pa./Kennard Dale) scored on a pass from junior midfielder Reagan Ackermann (Myersville, Md./Middletown/UNC Wilmington) at the 32:00 mark.

Kutztown scored when Corinne Morgan found the back of the net on a pass from Caroline McDonald at the 63:07 mark to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Shepherd responded with a goal from Gable on a feed from junior midfielder Annabelle Wunderlich (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) at the 70:31 mark to complete the scoring.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Wilt (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) posted three saves for the Rams. Morgan O'Donnell recorded eight saves for the Golden Bears.

Shepherd had a 24-7 advantage in shots with a 12-4 edge in shots on goal. The Rams had an 11-7 margin in corner kicks.

The Rams await word on pairings for the upcoming regional tournament.

Notes: The Rams are now 2-1 against Kutztown this season … Shepherd posted a 2-0 win at Kutztown in September and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Golden Bears at home in October … the triumph gives the Rams back-to-back PSAC titles as Shepherd topped Kutztown, 3-2, in the championship game in 2024.

Comments from Head Coach Sam Odell

"What a team, what a staff, what a group! We have had everything go against us this season, but soccer is the real winner today. Our route to the final could not have been more difficult on paper, but we know how to arrive and perform when it matters most. The execution from the girls showcased that they were, and are, the best team in the land for the past couple seasons as we really prevailed today.

I have to give them a massive amount of credit. The togetherness and resilience we have built with this group, combined with the evident talent on the field, is formidable. We have had ridiculous amounts of adversity this year, but the group has channeled it as learning, lessons, and taken the positives to be better today than we were yesterday."
