FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Leila Jones and Haylen Cook each scored a game-high 15 points to lead Fairmont State (6-1) to a 63-83 win over Shepherd (2-3) in women's basketball action at Fairmont State on Sunday.
Sophomore forward Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) led the Rams with 16 points and eight rebounds. Estridge connected on 8-of-18 shots from the floor.
Junior guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) had 13 points, three steals, and two boards, while junior guard Samiyah Nasir (Gwynn Oak, Md./Howard College of Saint Rose) added 10 points and a pair of steals.
Shepherd had a 42.4 percent (28-66) field goal percentage with a 22.2 percent (2-9) effort from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 62.5 percent (5-8) from the foul line.
Fairmont State connected on 45.3 percent (29-64) of its field goals with a 36.8 percent effort (7-19) from three-point range. The Fighting Falcons hit 78.3 percent (18-23) of their free throws.
Fairmont State had a 39-36 rebounding edge. Shepherd forced 22 turnovers and committed 26.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Gannon for a 1 p.m. Contest.
