Shepherd Men Down Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) scored a game-high 19 points to lead Shepherd University (18-10, 14-7 PSAC) to a 75-68 win over Millersville (17-11, 13-9 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Millersville on Saturday. 

Banks was 6-of-9 from the floor with a 7-of-8 effort from the foul line. He added eight rebounds and three assists. 

Senior guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) tossed in 17 points, while graduate student forward Chase Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) added 16 points and 10 rebounds to post his eighth double-double of the season. 

Sophomore forward Cole Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) added eight points and five rebounds, while senior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added six points and six boards. 

Jahme Ested had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead Millersville. Saraj Ali added 14 points, while Aamir Hurst had 11.  

Shepherd had a 46-37 lead at the half.

Shepherd led by as many as 15 points in the second half. The Marauders used a 9-3 run to get to within four points at 72-68 after a layup by Hurst with 1:19 left. Robinson drained a three-pointer with 35 seconds left to seal the win for the Rams. 

Shepherd connected on 55.1 percent (27-29) of its field goals with a 35.7 percent (5-14) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 72.7 percent (16-22) of their free throws. 

Millersville shot 45.2 percent (28-62) from the floor with a 29.4 percent (5-17) effort from beyond the arc. The Raiders hit 77.8 percent (7-9) from the foul line. 

Shepherd had a 36-21 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced four turnovers and committed 12. 

The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Shippensburg in first round action of the PSAC Tournament. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
