Shepherd Men Upset East Stroudsburg in PSAC Tournament; Rams Reach 20-Wins Mark

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Graduate student forward Chase Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Shepherd University (20-10) to a 79-67 win over East Stroudsburg (21-8) in quarterfinal action of the PSAC Men's Basketball Tournament at the East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night.

Paar was 8-of-12 from the floor with a 5-of-6 effort from the foul line. He added three assists, three blocked shots, and two steals. Paar's double-double was his 10th of the season.

Senior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added 19 points and six boards. Sophomore guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) had 18 points, seven boards, three assists, and three steals.

Senior guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) had nine points and six rebounds, while sophomore forward Cole Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) contributed seven points and six boards.

Lakeem McAliley had a game-high 24 points to lead East Stroudsburg. Evan Morton added 17 points, while Ethan Milliron tossed in 10.

Shepherd opened the game on a 15-1 run and had a 40-36 advantage at halftime. Banks and Poffenberger each had eight first-half points.
 
The game featured 11 lead changes and three ties. Shepherd took the lead for good at 59-58 on a three-pointer by Banks with 5:06 left in regulation. The Rams closed the game on a 20-9 run to secure the victory.

Shepherd connected on 48.3 percent (28-58) of its field goals with a 25.9 percent (7-27) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 76.2 percent (16-21) of their free throws.

East Stroudsburg shot 34.4 percent (24-70) from the floor with a 41.7 percent (10-24) effort from beyond the arc. The Warriors hit 81.8 percent (9-11) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 43-36 edge in rebounds. The Rams forced 12 turnovers and committed 16.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host California (Pa.) at 3:30 p.m. in the later semifinal action contest of the PSAC Tournament. Millersville and Gannon will play in the earlier game at 1 p.m.
