Shepherd Football Falls at Frostburg State

Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. – Myles Fulton completed 16-of-22 passes for 209 yards and four touchdowns to lift Frostburg State (1-0) to a 41-27 win over Shepherd (0-1) in football action at Frostburg State on Saturday night.

Frostburg State took a 7-0 lead when Myles Fulton teamed with Jevon Gillyard on a 40-yard scoring pass with 10:04 left in the first quarter.

Sophomore kicker Max Barba (Rock Hall, Md./Kent Island/McPherson College) connected on a 42-yard field goal with 5:20 left in the first quarter to cut the lead to 7-3.

Fulton fired a 45-yard scoring pass to Ray Adames with 8:12 left in the second quarter to give Frostburg State a 14-3 advantage.

Carter Mazalewski picked off a Shepherd pass and ran 55 yards for a score with 3:52 left in the second quarter.

Barba added a 44-yard field goal with 1:47 left in the half to make it 20-6.

Redshirt junior defensive lineman Vince Flook (Middletown, Md./Middletown) blocked a Bobcat field goal and redshirt senior defensive back Geo-Di Tolbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass/Fairmont State) picked it up and raced 75 yards for a touchdown in the final seconds of the half to cut the deficit to 20-13.

Fulton teamed with Cruiz Paul-Umstead on a nine-yard scoring toss with 6:47 left in the third quarter to up the advantage to 27-13.

Graduate student running back Grant Swinehart (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby/VMI) galloped 71 yards for a touchdown with 3:48 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 27-20.

Fulton fired an 18-yard score to Tra'Shaun Timmons with 11:57 left in the fourth quarter to give the Bobcats a 34-20 lead.

Redshirt junior running back Jordan Barnett (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge/FUMA/Southern Utah) scored on a four-yard run with 6:46 left in the game.
Owen Doyle dashed 15 yards for a score with 1:38 left to complete the scoring.

Frostburg State had 384 yards of total offense while Shepherd totaled 341.

Graduate student quarterback Michael Hardyway (Winchester, Cal./Oceanside/Bucknell) completed 16-of-30 passes for 182 yards for the Rams.

Swinehart topped the Rams with nine carries for a game-high 135 yards.

Brown led the Shepherd receivers with four catches for 62 yards.

Junior linebacker Devin Harper (Centreville, Va./Centreville/Lackawanna/Albany) and senior defensive lineman Nathan Muhle (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson/Harding) each recorded eight tackles to lead the defense. Mazalewski had eight stops to lead the Bobcats.

The Rams return to action on Sept 13. when they travel to nationally-ranked Slippery Rock for a 6 p.m. contest.
