Shepherd Men Knock Off Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Junior guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptistscored a game-high 24 points to lead Shepherd (12-8, 8-5 PSAC East) to a 78-73 win over Lock Haven (5-13, 3-10 PSAC East) in PSAC East men's basketball action at Lock Haven on Saturday.

Banks connected on 8-of-14 field goals with an 8-of-12 effort from the foul line. He added four assists, three rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot.

Sophomore guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) added 16 points, while sophomore forward Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) posted a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Sophomore guard Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) contributed nine points and eight boards, and freshman guard Colby White (Buckingham, Va./Blue Ridge) had eight points.

Dyllon Scott scored 18 points to pace the Bald Eagles. Deon Coleman-Newsome and Blake Deegan each added 17 points, while Keith Warren tossed in 15.
 
Lock Haven had a 33-31 lead at the break.
 
There were eight ties and 13 lead changes in the contest.
 
Shepherd led by as many as 11 points at 70-59 with 2:54 left in the second half after a three-pointer by Wordlaw, but Lock Haven rallied to within three points three times in the game's final 30 seconds. Shepherd sunk 6-of-6 free throws down the stretch to cap the victory.
 
Shepherd connected on 54.7 percent (29-53) of its field goals with a 42.9 percent (9-21) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 64.7 percent (11-17) of their free throws.
 
Lock Haven shot 43.9 percent (29-66) from the floor with a 32.3 percent (7-21) effort from beyond the arc. The Bald Eagles hit 57.1 percent (8-14) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 33-28 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced eight turnovers and committed 14.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Shippensburg at 7:30 p.m.
