Michael Hardyway (Winchester, Cal./Oceanside/Bucknell) completed 16-of-20 passes for 139 yards and a score and redshirt freshman running back
Ian Mauldin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) added 18 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown to lead Shepherd University (5-1, 2-1 PSAC East) to a 28-14 win over West Chester (3-3, 1-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at West Chester on Saturday night.
Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when Hardyway teamed with freshman wide receiver
Nyion Mason (North Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) on a 15-yard scoring strike with 7:18 left in the first quarter.
West Chester answered back on a one-yard plunge from Mikhail Johnson with 1:44 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7.
Shepherd took a 14-7 lead into the break when sophomore running back
Jabril Daniels (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) scored on a one-yard run with 6:40 left in the half.
Shepherd opened the second half scoring when Mauldin raced 50 yards for a score with 6:55 left in the third quarter to up the lead to 21-7.
Daniels added his second touchdown of the night on a four-yard scamper with 12:56 left in the fourth quarter to give the Rams a 28-7 lead.
Colin O'Sullivan tossed a 10-yard scoring pass to Maurice Clark with 9:20 left in the game to wrap up the scoring.
O'Sullivan connected on 16-of-20 passes for 120 yards for the Golden Rams.
Sophomore wide receiver
Derrell Pierson (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill Academy) led the Shepherd receivers with five receptions for 51 yards. Clark had four catches for 41 yards to lead the Golden Rams.
Future Robinson had 11 carries for 79 yards to lead West Chester. Daniels added 10 carries for 46 yards for the Rams.
Shepherd had 380 yards of total offense while limiting West Chester to 238 total yards.
The Shepherd defense was led by sophomore defensive back
D'Myo Hunter (Culpeper, Va./Blue Ridge School) and sophomore defensive back
Tyrin Chinn-Thompson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck). Chinn-Thompson had six tackles with three solo stops, while Hunter had six stops with four solo tackles. Anthony Delle Donne had a game-high nine tackles for West Chester.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at noon for Homecoming.
