SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Maddie LaFrance scored a team-high 20 points to lead Bloomsburg (15-14, 11-10) to a 67-66 victory over Shepherd (11-15, 9-12) in PSAC East women's basketball action on Senior Day at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Junior guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) poured in a game-high 25 points to pace the Rams. She added seven rebounds and four assists. Wehner connected on 10-of-19 shots from the floor with a 4-of-9 effort from beyond the arc. She was 1-of-2 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore forward Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) added 10 points, six boards, and three steals. Junior guard Cassidy Rhodes (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) scored nine points, while junior forward Jenna Liska (Eldersburg, Md. Liberty Frostburg State) contributed eight points and six boards.
Ava Stevenson added 14 points for the Huskies. Maddison Maynard had 12 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks, while Kelly Leszcynski contributed 12 points, five assists, and five rebounds.
Shepherd had a 44-32 lead at halftime behind 17 first-half points from Wehner.
The Rams led by as many as 15 points in the third quarter, but Bloomsburg rallied to within a point at 66-65 with 1:24 left in the contest after a three-pointer by LaFrance. Leszcynski hit a jumper with 45 seconds remaining to provide the margin of victory for the Huskies.
Shepherd connected on 42.6 percent (29-68) of its field goals with a 35.7 percent effort (5-14) from three-point range. The Rams hit 75 percent (3-4) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg had a 48.3 percent (29-60) field goal percentage with a 31.3 percent effort (5-16) from beyond the arc for the game. The Huskies hit 66.7 percent (4-6) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 39-32 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 17.
The fifth-seeded Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to fourth-seeded Bloomsburg for first round PSAC tournament action at 6 p.m.
