BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Kelly Leszcynski scored a game-high 19 points to lead Bloomsburg (16-14) to a 70-53 victory over Shepherd (11-16) in first-round PSAC East Women's Basketball Tournament action at Bloomsburg on Monday.
Sophomore forward Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) tossed in a team-high 16 points to pace the Rams. She added four rebounds.
Estridge connected on 7-of-20 shots from the floor. She was 2-of-3 from the charity stripe.
Junior guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) added 10 points, four boards, two assists, and a pair of steals. Junior forward Jenna Liska (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty/Frostburg State) had 10 points and a team-high five rebounds. Junior guard Samiyah Nasir (Gwynn Oak Md./Howard/College of Saint Rose) contributed nine points and three rebounds.
Ava Stevenson had 17 points, seven assists, and five boards for the Huskies. Maddison Maynard added 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Shepherd connected on 31.3 percent (21-67) of its field goals with a 15 percent effort (3-20) from three-point range. The Rams hit 72.7 percent (8-11) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg had a 43.7 percent (31-71) field goal percentage with a 29.4 percent effort (5-17 from beyond the arc for the game. The Huskies hit 33.3 percent (3-9) from the foul line.
Bloomsburg had a 51-36 advantage on the boards. Turnovers were even at 15 apiece.
Bloomsburg advances to face Gannon at 5:30 p.m. in quarterfinal round action on Wednesday at Gannon.
