Guide to your Initial Eligibility
Initial eligibility is determined by your high school academic records along with your ACT and SAT scores. The NCAA Eligibility Center will provide a certification for academics and amateurism to all prospective student-athletes who have registered and been placed on an institution's recruiting list (IRL).
After a prospective student-athlete's (PSA) sophomore year, all PSA's should register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. It will be necessary for you to provide your ten digit NCAA EC number to the head coach during the recruiting process. For more details regarding academic requirements, review the Guide to College Bound Student-Athletes link below.
After registering and providing all necessary academic records to the NCAA Eligibility Center, you will receive one of the following initial eligibility certifications:
QUALIFIER
If you are a qualifier, you can practice or compete for Shepherd University during your first year of enrollment as a full-time student as well as receive athletics aid during your first year of enrollment. All future eligibility is certified by Shepherd University.
PARTIAL QUALIFIER
If you are a partial-qualifier, then this means that you did not meet the academic requirements provided on the DII Quick Reference Guide linked below; but, you can practice with your team at its home facility and can receive athletic aid during your first year of college.
NON-QUALIFIER
If you are a non-qualifier, you cannot practice or compete for Shepherd University during the first year in college. You must serve a year in residence which means enroll for two full-time semesters and earn the eligibility requirements for continuing student-athletes (see Continuing Student-Athlete section). During this academic year, you cannot receive athletics aid, although you may receive other institutional aid or need-based financial aid.
