Kenneth Johnson enters his second year as the defensive line coach after joining the Shepherd football staff in February 2019. Johnson came to Shepherd after spending the 2018 season as the defensive line coach and defensive run game coordinator at Seton Hill.
In Johnson's first season in 2019 Shepherd led the PSAC interceptions and ranked eighth nationally with 20. The Rams recorded 34 sacks (-223 yards) and 91 tackles-for-loss (-362 yards).
Prior to working at Seton Hill, Johnson spent one season at Lincoln (Pa.) as defensive coordinator.
Johnson previously had a three-year coaching stint at Frostburg State. He was elevated to the program’s recruiting coordinator and worked with the wide receivers and defensive ends during his time with the Bobcats.
Johnson coached the defensive line at Randallstown (Md.) High School from 2012-13 and also served as the sports conditioning coach. He implemented defensive schemes and organized strength workouts for the players.
Johnson was a four-year member of the Lincoln University (Pa.) football program from 2009-12. He was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in each of his final two seasons after totaling 52 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. Johnson served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for two years and was president of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship.
Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree from Lincoln in health science in May 2013 and his master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Frostburg State in 2016.
