Sam Daniels enters his third season as defensive line coach for the Rams.
In 2017 senior defensive end Myles Humphrey gained All-American and Academic All-American honors for the second consecutive year. Humphrey, the 2017 MEC Defensive Player of the Year, became the program's all-time leader in sacks (4) and tied the all-time record with 69 tackles-for-loss.
In 2016 Shepherd defensive linemen James King and Myles Humphrey each gained first team All MEC honors while Humphrey also gained honorable mention All-American honors.
Daniels came to Shepherd in 2016 after serving as defensive line coach at Frostburg State University from 2014-15.

Daniels coached at the Apprentice School from 2012-13. In 2013, Daniels served as the defensive coordinator, defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. The Builders registered 12 sacks, recovered 10 fumbles and picked off seven passes.

In 2012, Daniels served as the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for Apprentice. The Builders posted 14 sacks, recovered 15 fumbles and intercepted eight passes.

Daniels was a two-time All-American and four-year member of the James Madison University football team. In his final two years, Daniels was a two-time team captain, a two-time All-CAA defensive line honoree and a two-time All-American. Over his final two seasons, he finished with 108 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss with 10.5 sacks. As a senior, he was the Dukes’ Defensive MVP and Lineman of the Year.
