Prior to Shepherd: A 2014 graduate of Northside High School where he played football for Burt Torrence... a four-year letterwinner in football... member of state champion and Blue Ridge District champion teams... named a first team All-State, first team All-Region,  and first team All-Star... a team captain.

Personal: The son of Eric and Trina Johnson... majoring in political science.
