Zach Thomsen enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Rams. Thomsen comes to Shepherd after spending the past two seasons as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Le Moyne College.
Thomsen helped lead the Dolphins to a 17-12 overall mark in 2013-14 and an at-large bid to the NCAA II Tournament for the school’s first postseason bid in 17 seasons. While at Le Moyne, Thomsen’s coaching responsibilities included coordination of recruiting, scouting, team day-to-day operations, game preparation/strategy, film exchange, player evaluation and development, and game/event management.
Prior to coach at Le Moyne, Thomsen was an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for two seasons at Onondaga Community College.
Thomsen is a 2010 graduate of West Virginia University Institute of Technology where he played basketball for two seasons. A team captain as a senior, Thomsen led the Mid-South Conference in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. He was a two-time Mid-South Academic All-Conference choice and was twice named to the NABC Honors Court. He also played two years at Onondaga Community College. He gained Mid-State Atlantic Conference MVP honors in his final season as he led his team to the league championship as a team captain.
Thomsen earned his master’s degree in general professional education with a focus in higher education from Le Moyne in 2014.
