Katie Bishop enters her third year as Head Athletic Trainer and first as Director of Sports Medicine Department at Shepherd University in 2025-26. Bishop oversees the Department’s Athletic Trainers, Strength and Conditioning Coaches as well as being involved with the Counseling and Nutritional aspects at Shepherd.
Bishop provides and oversees the injury prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis of injury, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and overall well-being of Shepherd’s 380+ student-athletes. Her primary sporting assignments involve working with the football, men’s basketball, men's and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf teams on campus.
Bishop is Shepherd’s designated Athletics Health Care Administrator. She also spearheaded the beginning of the Mental Health Committee within the Athletic Department to coordinate the relationship with our Counseling Services on campus. When needed, Bishop is also the point of contact for any Drug Testing of Shepherd’s student-athletes.
Bishop is a nationally board-certified athletic trainer with an athletic training license in West Virginia. She is also a 10-year member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). She maintains her Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification through American Red Cross and American Heart Association, where she was also a previous instructor.
In addition to Bishop’s certifications mentioned above, she also holds the Graston Technique Specialist (GTS) certification having completed M1 and M2 courses. The Certification in Dry Needling (Cert. DN) successfully completing DN1 and DN2. As well as being a Contemporary Cupping Practitioner through International Cupping Therapy Association (ICTA).
Prior to coming to Shepherdstown, Bishop was the Head Athletic Trainer for Glenville State University in WV for two years. She was the Chief Medical Coordinator, a member of the Athletic Leadership Team, Secondary Insurance Coordinator while also providing care to all 18 varsity sports. That included the Division II National Championship Women’s Basketball team in 2022.
No stranger to National Championship teams, before Glenville, Bishop was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. There she was able to provide care to the 2018 Division I National Championship Women’s Ice Hockey team – which including treating Team USA, Team Canada and Team Czech Republic Olympic athletes. She was also tasked with secondary insurance responsibilities, while being assigned to volleyball, women’s ice hockey, baseball, and alpine ski student-athletes.
Bishop earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in 2016 from Merrimack College. Bishop was also a vital member of Merrimack’s Field Hockey team having served as team captain for three seasons. She finished her decorated athletic collegiate career as a Two-Time All American, First-Team All-Conference, First-Team All Championship NE-10 player.
After graduating from Merrimack, Bishop went on to attain her Master of Art degree in Kinesiology and Sport Management in 2017 from University of South Dakota. While in classes for her Masters, Bishop was working at a Graduate Assistant at Buena Vista University (Storm Lake, IA), where she was the certified athletic trainer for football, baseball and tennis teams.
Having grown up in Rapid City, SD and Center Conway, NH, Bishop currently resides in Williamsport, MD.
