Entering his fifth season as defensive backs coach/special teams coordinator is Luke Wright.
In 2024 Wright guided a pair of All-PSAC East defensive back performers in Miles Greer (first team) and Donte Harrison (second team). Greer also grabbed first team All-PSAC honors as a return specialist as he led the conference in punt returns.
In 2023 Wright mentored first team All-PSAC East performers in defensive back Omari Terry and return specialist Milles Greer. Shepherd had three kick return touchdowns as Greer (86-yard punt return), Malakai Brown (100-yard kickoff return), and Cameron Dorner (96-yard kickoff return) each had scoring returns.
In 2022 Wright coached first team All-PSAC East selections Keyshawn Hailey, Klayton Batten, and Ronnie Brown. Brown set a Shepherd record with a 100-yard kickoff return against Kutztown. The Shepherd defense ranked fifth in NCAA II in passes intercepted with 18 and ranked fourth nationally in turnovers gained (29).
In 2021 Wright mentored a pair of first team All-PSAC East selections in return specialist Josh Gontarek and defensive back Ponce Deleon. Additionally, kicker Hayden August-Scriven became just the second Ram kicker to score 100 points or more in a season
Wright came to Shepherd after coaching at Fairmont State from 2018-2020. He worked as the wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator and special team coordinator for the Fighting Falcons
In 2019, Wright helped the Falcons rank 13th in the country in total offense, 18th in scoring offense, and the Fairmont State passing attack was the 36th-best in the country at 251.8 yards per game. In his second season with the Falcons in 2019, Wright was instrumental in the development of two receivers that racked up over 750 receiving yards and eight TD receptions, including first team All-MEC selection Javon Hayes. On special teams, the Falcons' kickoff return unit ranked 24th in NCAA Division II at 23.2 yards per return during the 2019 season.
In 2018, his first season with the Falcons, Wright helped the team to a 9-2 overall record and helped develop a pair of Fairmont State receivers that earned All-MEC honors following the regular season. The Fairmont State passing offensive ranked fourth in the league at 224.1 yards per game.
Wright was the wide receivers and special teams quality control coach at Towson University during the spring of 2018.
Wright spent the 2017 season as wide receivers coach at Hiram University. His duties at Hiram included social media promotion for the football program, video coordination, football operations during team travel and serving as an assistant academic coordinator.
Prior to Hiram, Wright was a quality control coach at Towson, where he worked with defensive and special teams staff and was heavily involved in recruiting.
Prior to his first stint with Towson, he served one season as the wide receivers coach at Division II Quincy University.
Wright also had coaching stints at McDaniel College (2014) and Century High School early in his coaching career. While with the Green Terror in 2014, Wright served as the running backs coach. In addition, he served as the offensive coordinator at CHS in 2013.
A four-year member of the Duquesne University football team, Wright was a member of the 2011 NEC Championship team.
Wright earned his bachelor's degree in history from Duquesne in 2013 before going on to get his master’s in educational leadership from Quincy.
