PRINCETON, W.Va. – Nineteen members of the conference champion Shepherd University football team were named to the 2010 All-WVIAC team today.
Senior offensive lineman Steve Baisey (Laytonsville, MD/Damascus), junior running back Tommy Addison (Germantown, MD/Quince Orchard), senior linebacker Brian Taylor (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach), sophomore cornerback Keon Robinson (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock), and senior kick returner Deante Steele (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) were all first-team selections.
Baisey, a first-year starter for the Rams, has keyed the offensive line play for the Rams and helped pave the way for fellow first team choice Tommy Addison.
Addison, who rushed for 100 yards or more in six games, has run for 1,178 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. He was a WVIAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week this year.
Taylor tops the Ram defense with 64 total tackles. He has recorded five pass breakups, three interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick.
Robinson, who leads the conference with eight interceptions, is sixth on the team in tackles with 46 and also paces the WVIAC with 17 passes defended. He has forced two fumbles and has a fumble recovery. He was named WVIAC Defensive Player of the Week after his excellent play in Shepherd's win over Fairmont State.
Steele, a first team selection for the third straight year, has a 20.9 kickoff return average and a 9.9 punt return mark. He earned WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after his NCAA II record 11th career kick return touchdown keyed a Shepherd win over West Liberty.
Second team selections were junior offensive lineman Josh Spring (Lovettsville, VA/Loudoun Valley), senior tight end Dominique Jones (San Diego, CA/Century), senior fullback Bobby Humphries (Frederick, MD/Thomas Johnson, sophomore defensive end Howard Jones (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom), redshirt-freshman nose guard Mike Franklin (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach), senior outside linebacker Ben Minturn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus), sophomore safety Corey Washington (Alexandria, VA/Edison) and junior kicker Eric Dobratz (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac).
Spring helped key the Ram offensive line play.
Jones leads the Rams in touchdown receptions with six. He has 24 receptions for 297 yards.
Humphries was named WVIAC Offensive Player of the Week following a standout effort against Shippensburg. He has rushed 10 times for 109 yards and a pair of scores on the year. He also has eight catches for 92 yards.
Jones has 29 tackles on the year with 20 solos. His 14.5 tackles-for-loss and five sacks lead the team.
Franklin, who gained WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after his key extra point block against Shippensburg, has recorded 27 tackles with 8.5 tackles-for-loss and four sacks.
Minturn has recorded 52 tackles on the year with 31 solo stops. He has two pass breakups, a pair of fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble.
Washington is second on the team in tackles with 62. His 41 solo stops ties for the team lead. He has three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and a pair of forced fumbles. He was a two-time WVIAC Player of the Week.
Dobratz, who was named to the Fred Mitchell Award watch list, has connected on 46-of-48 extra point with a 5-of-10 effort in field goals for 61 points. He was a two-time WVIAC Player of the Week honoree.
Senior quarterback Kevin Clancy (Westminster, MD/Westminster), junior wide receiver Robert Byrd (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) junior wide receiver Nikkolai Norrell (Richmond, VA/Hermitage), junior running back Nate Hoyte Waldorf, MD/McDonough), senior defensive end Will Wheeler (Chantilly, VA/Westfield), and junior cornerback Elijah Davis (Silver Spring, MD/Wheaton) were honorable mention selections.
Clancy has connected on 161-of-269 passes for 2,184 yards and 19 touchdowns on the year. Clancy broke into most of the Shepherd all-time top ten passing lists this year despite only starting for two years.
Byrd leads the Rams in receiving with 30 receptions for 475 yards and four touchdowns. His 47.5 receiving yards per game also pace the team.
Norrell has 24 catches for 320 yards and three scores this season.
Hoyte rushed 101 times for 491 yards and nine touchdowns on the year.
Wheeler has recorded 27 tackles on the season with 18 solo stops. He has 8.5 tackles-for loss and four sacks. He also has a fumble recovery and a blocked kick to his credit.
Davis is fourth on the team in tackles with 54 and ties Washington for most solo tackles with 41. He has three interceptions, 15 passes defended, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
