ASHBURN, Va. – Wayne Wilson, a former Shepherd football player and assistant football coach, was among the more than 25 players honored with Super Bowl Rings in a ceremony at Redskins Park on Tuesday.
Wilson was a standout running back for Shepherd from 1975-78. He was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the 12th round of the 1979 draft. He went on to a successful NFL career with the New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, and Washington Redskins. Wilson was an assistant coach for the Rams from 2005-16. He was inducted into the Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame in the initial class in 1986.
