SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –
Senior guard Brantley Osborne (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) scored a game-high 24 points and junior guard Austin Cunningham (Vincent, Ohio/Ohio Valley) added 23 points and a game-high eight assists to lead Shepherd to a 97-94 overtime win over Concord in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night.
Osborne connected on 5-of-14 shots with a 3-of-9 effort from beyond the arc. He was 11-for-13 from the foul line. He added six boards, four assists and a game-high three steals. Cunningham was 5-of-10 from the floor with a 2-of-4 effort from beyond the arc with an 11-of-12 performance at the charity stripe.
Junior forward Morgan McDonald (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) added 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while senior forward Kevin Jones (Washington, DC/IUP) followed with 18 points.
Cam Shannon scored 21 points and Grant Dickerson added 19 to lead the Mountain Lions. Mike Boyd added 18 points, while Nick Moyer had eight points and 13 rebounds.
Shepherd shot 47.8 percent (32-67) from the floor with a 31.8 percent (7-22) effort from three-point range. The Rams connected on 26-of-33 free throws (78.8 percent).
Concord shot 51.5 percent (34-66) from the floor with an 8-of-23 effort (34.8 percent) from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions hit on 18-of-24 free throws (75 percent).
Concord had a 42-31 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams took a 45-39 lead into the break as Osborne (15) and Cunningham (12) combined for 27 points in the first half.
Concord battled back from an 11-point second half deficit to tie the game at 82-82 and force the extra session on a pair of free throws by Boyd with five seconds left in regulation.
With the game tied at 89-all with 2:35 remaining in overtime, the Rams used a 7-2 run to take a 96-91 lead after a pair of Cunningham free throws with nine seconds left. Shannon drained a three-pointer with four seconds left to draw the Mountain Lions to within two points. Osborne hit on 1-of- 2 free throw attempts for the Rams and Aaron Miller's last second three-point attempt was off the mark.
Shepherd improves to 12-3, 7-2 in conference action, while Concord falls to 5-10, 2-7. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 4 p.m. contest.
