Shepherd Handles Urbana to Capture MEC Title; Ziemba Sets Passing Mark

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Junior quarterback Jeff Ziemba (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) completed 28-of-37 passes for 361 yards and five touchdowns to lead Shepherd University to a 52-20 win over Urbana in MEC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday. The Rams clinched the MEC title with the victory.

Shepherd improves to 10-0, 10-0 in conference play, while Urbana completes its season at 2-9, 2-8.

Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when Ziemba fired a 32-yard scoring strike to senior wide receiver Dalton Boyd (Winchester, Va./Sherando/William & Mary) with 13:30 left in the first quarter.

The Rams increased their lead to 14-0 when Ziemba teamed with sophomore wide receiver Angelo Jean-Louis (Wellington, Fla./Palm Beach Central/Fork Union/Marshall) on an 11-yard scoring pass with 14:06 left in the second quarter.

Junior Tre Sullivan (Accokeek, Md./Gwynn Park) picked up a fumbled forced by senior defensive end  Shaneil Jenkins (District Heights, Md./Suitland) and dashed 24 yards for a score with 13:47 left in the second quarter.

Urbana cut the lead to 21-7 when Tajuan Green teamed with Trevon Saunders on a scoring pass with 12:01 left in the second quarter.

Shepherd extended its lead when Ziemba fired a 72-yard scoring strike to junior wide receiver Tony Squirewelll (Cheltenham, Md./Bishop McNamara) with 4:34 left in the second quarter.

The Blue Knights cut the lead to 28-13 when Green fired a 14-yard touchdown pass to Ron Roberts with 1:21 left in the half. The extra point attempt was blocked by sophomore defensive end Myles Humphrey (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise).

Ziemba and Squirewell teamed up for a 24-yard scoring strike with 17 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 35-13 advantage at the break.

Ziemba tossed a two-yard scoring pass to junior wide receiver Billy Brown (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) with 10:04 left in the third quarter.

Senior kicker Ryan Earls (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) connected on a 35-yard field goal with 2:12 left in the third quarter to up the led to 45-13.

Green and Saunders combined on an 18-yard scoring pass with 14:54 left in the fourth quarter.
 
Sophomore quarterback Connor Jessop (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run/Virginia Tech) fired a 10-yard scoring pass to junior tight end Jamie Deason (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) with 9:49 left in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.

Green completed 21-of-46 passes for 211 yards for the Blue Knights. He also ran 12 times for a game-high 57 yards.

Boyd had eight catches for 87 yards and Squirewell had seven receptions for 150 yards to lead the Ram receivers. Saunders had five catches for 55 yards for the Blue Knights.

Junior running back Jabre Lolley (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Shepherd ground game with 13 carries for 49 yards.

Shepherd gained 468 yards of total offense while Urbana had 306.

Sullivan and sophomore outside linebacker Tre Anderson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) each had six tackles to lead the Shepherd defense. D'Gary Wallace had a game-high 18 tackles (12 solos) for the Blue Knights.

Notes: Ziemba's five touchdown passes tied the Shepherd single game mark shared by Joel Gordon, Chad Broadwater and Jay Mason … Ziemba's 26 touchdown passes on the year set a Shepherd single season mark, eclipsing the old mark of 22 shared by Chad Broadwater (1996) and Kevin Clancy (2010) … Shepherd posted an undefeated regular season mark for the fifth time in program history (1955, 2005, 2006, 2013).
