Shepherd Women Down WV Wesleyan

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Sophomore guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a game and season-high 25 points to lead Shepherd University to a 96-83 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday.

Shepherd improves to 1-4, 1-1 in MEC play, while West Virginia Wesleyan drops to 0-3, 0-2.

Arden connected on 9-of-16 shots from the floor with a 4-of-4 effort from three-point range. She hit on 3-of-4 shots from the foul line. She added six assists and four steals.

Junior guard Sammy Bane (Chantilly, Va./Middleburg Academy) came off the bench to toss in in a career-high 15 points on a 6-of-10 shooting effort. Freshman guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area)  had a career-high 14 points and six rebounds, while freshman guard Kristen Nunn (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) added 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Junior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added 12 points and six rebounds, while junior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) contributed four points and a game and career-high 11 assists.

Adrian Cunningham had 22 points and Tara Goldman had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Bobcats. Stacy Remer also posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards.

The Rams connected on 55.9 percent (38-68) from the floor with a 57.1 percent (8-14) effort from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 66.7 percent of its free throws (12-18). West Virginia Wesleyan hit on 41.4 percent (29-70) of its field goals with a 10.7 percent (3-28) effort from beyond the arc. The Bobcats hit on 91.7 percent (22-24) of their free throws.

Shepherd had a 41-33 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 17 turnovers and committed 16.

The Rams to action on Wednesday when they host Gannon for a 2 p.m. contest.
