Shepherd Baseball Splits with Concord

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLOVER, S.C. – Shepherd University split with Concord University in MEC baseball doubleheader action at Clover High School on Monday. The Rams recorded a 4-1 win in game one while Concord posted a 6-2 triumph in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the second inning in game one when senior first baseman Dom Wyshinski (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) singled and later scored on a ground out by sophomore outfielder Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando).

Concord tied the game in the fourth as Andrew Siegel walked, stole second, and scored on a fielder's choice.

The Rams plated three runs in the sixth to gain the victory. Junior designated hitter Sam Crater (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York/Frederick CC) walked with the bases loaded and Carney drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to key the rally.

Junior pitcher Jamie Driver (Broad Run, Va./Kettle Run) (7.0 IP,  3H, 1 ER, 6 Ks, 2 BB) earned a complete game win to improve to 1-0. Barinder
Rakkar (0-1) took the loss for the Mountain Lions.

Clinging to a 3-2 lead in the nightcap, Concord plated three runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the sixth to gain the split.

Chad Frazier went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, while Siegel added a 1-for-3 effort with an RBI to lead the Mountain Lions.

Senior outfielder Matt Wilson (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley/Essex CC) went 2-for-2 with two runs scored to pace the Rams in the nightcap.

Senior catcher Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/USC Aiken) and senior second baseman Zane Bard (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) each added 2-for-3 efforts.

Nate Werner (1-0) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions, while senior pitcher Austin Hale (Nokesville, Va./Brentsville District/Frederick CC) (6.0 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 1K, 4 BB) (0-1) took the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd moves to 3-1, while Concord is now 1-3. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Virginia State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
