Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University had 22 hits on the day en route to a sweep over University of Charleston in MEC baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Sunday. The Rams recorded a 12-1 win in game one and added a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game one. Junior infielder
Tre Porter (Stephens City, Va./Sherando Potomac State) had a two-run single to highlight the rally.
The Rams extended their lead to 7-1 with four more runs in the second. Sophomore outfielder
Jonathan Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William & Mary), senior catcher
Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/USC Aiken), and senior first baseman
Dom Wyshinski (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) each drove in a run to key the rally.
Shepherd got a two-run homer from Sarty in the third, a two-run double by sophomore outfielder
Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) in the fourth, and an RBI-double by senior first baseman
Dom Wyshinski (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) in the fifth to complete the scoring.
Sarty went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI, while Carney was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI to lead the Rams.
Anthony Brunetti and Tyler Ocker each had a pair of hits for the Golden Eagles.

Sam Crater (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York/Frederick CC) (4.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 Ks, 0 BB) picked up the win to improve to 3-1. Junior
Austin Guy (Leonardtown, Md./St.Mary's Ryken/Wheeling Jesuit) (3.0 IP, 3H, 1K, 2 BB) tossed scoreless ball in relief to gain the save. Charleston starter Patrick Chiaramonte (1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 0 Ks, 2 BB) took the loss.
Charleston took a 1-0 lead in the third in the nightcap as Mike Hoeft led off with a single and later scored on a ground out by Zach Gunter.
Shepherd took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Porter led off with a double and scored on a double off the bat of redshirt-freshman designated hitter
Daniel Heleine (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/WVU). Heleine later scored on a single by senior third baseman
Bryce Shemer (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill/Colorado Mesa).
The Rams added an insurance run in the sixth as Porter led off with a triple and scored on a single by Heleine.
Heleine led the Rams with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate. Carney and Porter each added 2-for-3 performances.
Hoeft went 2-for-3 to pace the Golden Eagles.
Junior pitcher
Jamie Driver (Broad Run, Va./Kettle Run) (7.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 11 Ks, 0 BB) went the distance to improve to 4-0. Andy Hoyer (0-2) took the loss for the Golden Eagles.
Shepherd improves to 12-2, 12-2 in conference play, while University of Charleston falls to 4-8, 3-7. The two teams return to action on Monday for a noon doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
