Box Score 2 MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Shepherd University swept West Virginia State in MEC baseball doubleheader action at Moor Park on Sunday. The Rams recorded a 10-5 win in game one and added an 8-0 triumph in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game one as sophomore outfielder
Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) scored on a passed ball.
State answered back with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-1 advantage with a two-run double by Cody Smith keying the rally.
The Rams plated a run in the fourth as junior infielder
Tre Porter (Stephens City, Va./Sherando/Potomac State) walked and later scored on a single by junior designated hitter
Sam Crater (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York/Frederick CC).
Shepherd took a 5-4 lead with three runs in the fifth. Senior outfielder
Matt Wilson (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley/Essex CC) hit an RBI-double, while Carney and senior first baseman
Dom Wyshinski (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) each added RBI-singles.
The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the sixth when Josh Kiser walked and later scored on a double by Jason Lewis.
Shepherd scored five runs in the seventh with the aid of three State errors to rally for the win.
Wilson went 3-for-3 and Carney was 2-for-3 with three runs scored to lead a 10-hit attack for the Rams.

Brian Martin (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) (1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 Ks, 0 BB) picked up the win in relief. Cameron Norris took the loss for the Yellow Jackets.
Senior catcher
Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/USC Aiken) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth of the nightcap with a two-run blast to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage.
The Rams added three more runs in the fifth with Porter smacking a two-run single to key the rally.
Shepherd tacked on three more runs in the sixth behind a two-run single by sophomore outfielder
Darius Jones (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Wolfe.
Senior infielder
Zane Bard (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) went 3-for-4 and Wolfe added a 1-for-2 effort with four RBI to pace the Rams.
Wilson got hit-by-pitch four times in the nightcap to tie an NCAA II mark and set a school single game record.
Senior starter
Bryan DiRosario (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield Secondary School) (5.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 Ks, 1 BB) picked up the win with relief help from
John Bentley (2.0 IP, 4 Ks, 0 BB). State starter Will Ore (4.1 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 2 Ks, 2 BB) took the loss.
Shepherd improves to 6-2, while West Virginia State falls to 1-6. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host UVa-Wise for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
