Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Shepherd University split with West Liberty in MEC baseball doubleheader action at West Liberty on Saturday. The Rams recorded a 6-1 triumph in game one, while West Liberty earned the split with a 4-2 win in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one behind an RBI-single by senior catcher
Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/USC Aiken).
The Rams added three runs in the fourth with senior third baseman
Bryce Shemer (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill/Colorado Mesa) and sophomore outfielder
Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) each driving in a run.
West Liberty plated a run in the bottom of the fourth when Jon-Michael Brunner walked with the bases loaded.
Shepherd added a run in the fifth on a solo blast by Wolfe and another in the seventh on a solo homer by senior outfielder

Tre Porter (Stephens City, Va./Sherando/Potomac State) each went 2-for-3, while Wolfe added a 2-for-4 outing to lead the Rams.
Vincent Haddox went 2-for-3 for the Hilltoppers.
Junior starter
Sam Crater (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York/Frederick CC) (5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) earned the win to improve to 8-2. He got relief help from senior pitcher
Brian Martin (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB). Mark Smyth (7.0 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 4 Ks, 6 BB) took the loss for the Hilltoppers.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first in the nightcap on an RBI-single by Wolfe.
The Hilltoppers got a two-run double by Tim Hughes in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.
Shepherd tied the game in the second on a solo blast by freshman designated hitter

Jordan Meyer had an RBI-double and later scored on a wild pitch in the third to give the Hilltoppers the win.

Austin Guy (Leonardtown, Md./St.Mary's Ryken/Wheeling Jesuit) led the Rams with a 2-for-3 performance.
Anthony Pierro went 2-for 3 for the Hilltoppers.
Junior pitcher
Jamie Driver (Broad Run, Va./Kettle Run) (6.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) (6-2) took the loss for the Rams. Greg Stagani (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 Ks, 2 BB) got the win for the Hilltoppers.
Shepherd moves to 26-8, 26-8 in conference play, while West Liberty is now 20-13, 16-10. The two teams return to action on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
