Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore outfielder
Jonathan Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William & Mary) belted a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one to lift Shepherd University to a 9-8 win over Urbana in MEC baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Saturday. The Rams added an 11-0 in the nightcap to gain the sweep.
Senior third baseman
Bryce Shemer (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill/Colorado Mesa) had a 3-for-4 outing to lead the Rams.
Senior first baseman
Dom Wyshinski (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial), sophomore outfielder
Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) and Sarty each added a pair of hits for the Rams.
Matt Paculan went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and five RBI to lead the Blue Knights. D.J. Collins added a 2-for-2 effort with three runs scored, while Evan Hacker had a solo homer.
Senior reliever
Brian Martin (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) (1.0 IP, 1 H, 3 ER, 2 Ks, 4 BB) earned the win to improve to 3-1. Jeff Beall (0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) (2-3) took the loss for the Blue Knights.
Sarty went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a double to lead the Rams in the nightcap win.
Carney and senior second baseman
Zane Bard (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) each contributed a pair of hits, while freshman designated hitter
Daniel Heleine (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/WVU) belted a three-run homer.
Junior pitcher
Jamie Driver (Broad Run, Va./Kettle Run) (6.0 IP, 4 H, 9 Ks, 3 BB) (7-2) gained the win for the Rams. Austin Mace (0.2 IP, 2 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 K, 3 BB) (4-4) took the loss for Urbana.
Shepherd improves to 30-10, 29-9 in MEC play, while Urbana falls to 15-18, 13-15. The two teams return to action on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
