Shepherd Softball Splits with Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University split with Wheeling Jesuit in MEC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Saturday. The Rams held on for a 5-4 win in game one, while Wheeling Jesuit rallied for a 14-10 win in the nightcap.

Senior second baseman Elisa Orlandi (Owings, MD/Northern) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to plate freshman pinch-runner Sarah North (Belcamp, Md./Harford Technical) to lift the Rams to victory in game one.

Senior third baseman Savannah Snyder (Elkton, Md./Padua Academy) led the Rams with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate with a pair of runs scored.

Angie Reddick went 2-for-2 with three runs scored to lead the Cardinals.

Sophomore pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (7.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 4 Ks, 3 BB) (9-9) got the complete game win for the Rams. Mallory Chapman (6.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 4 K2, 2 BB) (13-7) took the loss for the Cardinals.

Chapman went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and four RBI  and Reddick added three hits to pace Wheeling Jesuit in the nightcap.

Sophomore first baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson), freshman outfielder designated player  Molly Staley (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville), and sophomore outfielder/pitcher Paige Buckworth (Elkton, Md./North East) each had  a pair of hits for the Rams. Buckworth drove in three runs.

Buckworth (3.2 IP, 7 H 6 ER, 1 K, 3 BB) (1-1) took the loss for the Rams. Chapman (5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 UR, 2 Ks, 0 BB) (14-7) gained the win in relief for the Cardinals.

Shepherd moves to 18-19, 11-13 in MEC play, while Wheeling Jesuit is now 18-18, 14-8. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host West Liberty for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

Notes: Shepherd honored seniors Elisa Orlandi, Shanan Plunkett, Tayler Schaefer, and Savannah Snyder in between games for Senior Day… Schaefer and Snyder both eclipsed the 200-hit mark for their careers today… Schaefer had a pair of hits on the day to give her 201 for her career… Snyder's four hits on the day give her 202 for her career.
