Box Score BECKLEY, W.Va. – Shepherd University used a 14-hit attack en route to a 7-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in first day action of the Mountain East Conference Baseball Tournament at Linda K. Epling Stadium on Thursday.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as sophomore outfielder
Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) led off with a walk, stole second, and scored on a single by senior catcher
Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/USC Aiken).
The Rams added a run in the third when Carney walked and later scored on a double off the bat of senior outfielder
Matt Wilson (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley/Essex CC).
Shepherd extended its lead to 3-0 in the fifth as Wilson tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Wolfe.
The Rams added a run in the sixth as senior second baseman
Zane Bard (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) led off with a single and later scored on a single by sophomore outfielder
Jonathan Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William & Mary).
Shepherd plated three runs in the seventh behind a two-run single by Carney and an RBI-single by Bard.
Senior first baseman
Dom Wyshinski (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) went 3-for-5, while junior shortstop
Tre Porter (Stephens City, Va./Sherando/Potomac State), Carney, Wilson, and Bard each had a pair of hits.
Nick Jones and Travis Renner each had a pair of hits for the Bobcats.
Senior pitcher
Bryan DiRosario (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield Secondary School) (7.0 IP, 9 H, 3Ks, 1 BB) (9-1) gained the shutout victory. DiRosario tossed his first complete game of the season. Bobcat starter Chris Denno (6.0 IP, 11 H, 6 ER, 2 Ks, 3 BB) (2-5) took the loss.
Shepherd improves to 37-10, while West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 19-19. The Rams return to action on Friday at 3 p.m. when they face West Liberty.
