Shepherd Women's Lacrosse Edged by Shippensburg

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Madi Newman scored four goals and Amanda Frank added three to lead Shippenbsurg (1-0) to an 11-9 win over Shepherd University (0-1) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Junior attacker Brooke Hunley (Monrovia, Md./Linganore) and junior midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) each netted three goals to lead the Rams. Hunley also added an assist.

Senior midfielder/attacker Erin Phelan (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) added a goal and three assists, while junior midfielder Courtney Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) had a goal and an assist. Sophomore midfielder Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) scored a goal.

Senior netminder Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) (7) and sophomore goalkeeper Casey Hickman (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) (1) combined for eight saves for the Rams. Ally Frymoyer had nine saves for the Raiders.

Shippensburg scored three straight goals to open up a 10-6 midway through the second half.Shepherd respond with a three consecutive goals and were within a goal at 10-9 when Hunley scored on a feed from Schwiegerath with 6:14 remaining.

The Raiders got an insurance goal from Ali Harclerode on a pass from T.J. Johnson with 5:34 left to seal the win.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 4 p.m. match.
