WHEELING, W.Va. – Senior midfielder/attacker
Erin Phelan (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) scored six goals and added an assist to lead Shepherd University (8-9) to a 15-9 win over UVa-Wise (11-5) in semifinal action of the MEC Women's Lacrosse Tournament at Wheeling Jesuit on Friday. The Rams advance to the tournament championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they take on the winner of tonight's Wheeling Jesuit-West Virginia Wesleyan game.
Junior midfielder
Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) added four goals and an assist, while junior attacker
Brooke Hunley (Monrovia, Md./Linganore) tallied a goal and two assists.
Sophomore midfielder
Sarah Wendt (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) added a goal and an assist, while junior attacker
Alex Green (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro), junior midfielder
Courtney Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), and sophomore midfielder
Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) each recorded goals for the Rams. Senior attacker
Hunter Morris (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) contributed an assist.
Annie Hanson had three goals and an assist to lead the Cavaliers. McKayla Grasham added a pair of goals.
Senior goalkeeper
Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) had 10 saves for the Rams. Melanie Reilly had eight saves for the Cavaliers.
Shepherd had a 30-23 advantage in shots, while UVa-Wise had a 16-9 edge in draw controls. Ground balls were even at 16-16.
