Shepherd Women's Lacrosse Tops Charleston in Conference Opener

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Senior midfielder/attacker Theresa Lang (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and junior midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) each scored three goals to lead Shepherd University (3-6, 1-0) to a 19-2 win over University of Charleston(1-7, 0-2) in MEC women's lacrosse action at Charleston on Sunday.

Sophomore midfielder Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) had two goals and four assists, while senior midfielder/attacker Erin Phelan (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) added a pair of goals and three assists. Phelan (204) became the fourth player in program history to record 200 career points or more.

Junior attacker Alex Green (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) added two goals and an assists, while senior attacker Hunter Morris (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) had a goal and two assists in her first action of the season.

Senior defender/midfielder Kelsey Phelan (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin), junior attacker Brooke Hunley (Monrovia, Md./Linganore), junior midfielder Courtney Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), junior attacker Kiana Miller (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro), junior attacker Chrissy Jarboe (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll), and sophomore midfielder Sarah Wendt (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) each had a goal for the Rams.

Amelia Ramos and Peyton Harris each had a goal for the Golden Eagles.

Sophomore goalkeeper Casey Hickman (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) recorded six saves for the Rams. Amberlyn Casas had 18 saves for the Golden Eagles.

Shepherd had a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Shepherd had a 16-7 edge in ground balls and a 17-5 advantage in draw controls. The Rams had a 43-10 advantage in shots.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan for a 4 p.m. contest.
