Shepherd Women Knock Off Notre Dame in Overtime

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) had 18 points, seven assists, five rebounds and five steals to lead Shepherd University (7-11, 4-6 MEC) to a 69-60 overtime win over Notre Dame College (4-11, 3-7 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Notre Dame on Monday.

Mason connected on 5-of-11 field goals with an 8-of-8 performance from the foul line.

Sophomore guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) added 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) and freshman guard Lauren Reed (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) each added nine points. Myers also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go along with a game-high four blocked shots.

Kelsey Miller had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons. Kim Cook added 15 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists.

Notre Dame ended regulation on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 59-all and force the extra session. Kyleigh Ramlow hit a pair of three-pointers to spark the rally.

Shepherd outscored Notre Dame, 10-1 in overtime to notch the victory. Mason had four points to pace the Rams in overtime.

Shepherd shot 40.6 percent (26-64) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (4-16) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 76.5 percent (13-17) from the charity stripe.

Notre Dame hit on 39 percent (23-59) from the floor with a 26.9 percent (7-26) performance from beyond the arc. The Falcons connected on 58.3 percent (7-12) of their free throws.

Notre Dame had a 39-37 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 23 turnovers and committed 13.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Fairmont State for a 5:30 p.m. game.
