Arden Sets Scoring Mark; Shepherd Women Down Concord

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) set a program single-game mark with a game-high 40 points to lead Shepherd to a 78-66 win over Concord in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday.

Arden connected on 16-of-22 shots with a 7-of-11 effort from three-point range. She was 1-of-1 from the line. Arden's 40 points broke the previous record of 37 which she shared with Shepherd Hall-of-Famer Shery Price. Her seven three-pointers tie the single-game mark set by Sandi Goulet against Alderson Broaddus on Feb. 26, 1999.

Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) added 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while junior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West  York Area) had game-highs of eight assists and 11 rebounds to go along with four points.

Senior forward Jazmyne Howard (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) contributed eight points and six boards, while freshman forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added six points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Danielle Caton had 14 points and Heather Chapman added 12 for the Mountain Lions (4-6, 2-5 MEC). Emily Boothe was also in double figures with 10 points.

Shepherd had a 38-35 lead at halftime behind 21 first-half points from Arden.

Shepherd shot 42.3 percent (33-78) from the floor with a 40.9 percent effort (9-22) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 100 percent (3-3) of their free throws.

Concord hit on 45.6 percent (26-57) from the floor with a 30.8 percent (30.8) performance from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions connected on 83.3 percent (10-12) of their free throws.

Shepherd had a 46-32 advantage in rebounds. The Rams forced 19 turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host UVa-Wise for a 2 p.m. contest.
