Shepherd Football Tops Urbana

URBANA, Ohio  – Freshman running back Antwan Squire (Clinton, Md./Suitland) rushed 23 times for 132 yards and three touchdowns to lead Shepherd (5-2, 5-2 MEC) to a 44-21 win over  Urbana (4-4, 3-4 MEC) in MEC football action at Urbana on Saturday.

Urbana took a 7-0 lead when Cee Jay Hale teamed with Jesse Bray on 74-yard scoring pass with 13:17 left in the first quarter.

Freshman quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W,Va./Martinsburg) scored on a on fourth-and-goal on a one-yard sneak with 8:19 left in the first quarter. Sophomore kicker Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.

Squire scored on a two-yard plunge with one second left in the quarter to give Shepherd a 14-7 lead.

Bagent fired an eight-yard touchdown pass to redshirt-freshman running back Ty Hebron (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) with 10 seconds left in the second quarter to give the Rams a 20-7 lead at the break. The extra point attempt was blocked.

August-Scriven connected on a 33-yard field goal with 9:24 left in the third quarter to increase the Shepherd lead to 23-7.

Senior defensive lineman Tatah Ndeh (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) recovered a fumble and ran 21 yards for a score with 5:21 left in the quarter.

Squire weaved his way through the Urbana defense for a four-yard scoring run with 6:04 left in the third quarter to give Shepherd a 30-7 lead.

Isaiah Young ran 37 yards for a score for the Blue Knights to cut the lead to 37-14 with 8:49 left in the fourth quarter.

Urbana added a 42-yard run by Jeff Garcia with 7:30 remaining to cut the lead to 37-21.

Squire dashed 64 yards for his third score of the day with 4:22 left to seal the win for the Rams.

Bagent completed 20-of-30 passes for 216 yards for the Rams. Hale was 6-of-13 for 98 yards for the Blue Knights.

Senior wide receiver Ryan Feiss (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) had nine catches for 60 yards to lead the Shepherd receivers. Junior wide receiver Greg Leonard (Lusby, Md./Patuxent/Clarion) added three receptions for 67 yards.

Young ran 11 times for 61 yards for the Blue Knights.

Shepherd had 422 yards of total offense, while Urbana totaled 225.

Sophomore linebacker Chrys Lane (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) led the Rams with a team-high nine tackles (four solos). DeArmon Lewis had nine tackles (seven solos) for Urbana.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan at noon.
