SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd (5-7-4, 4-3-4 MEC) and West Liberty (4-8-3, 4-5-2 MEC) battled to a 1-1 tie in MEC women's soccer action at Shepherd on Sunday.
Freshman forward Darien Ball (Charleston, W. Va./George Washington) scored on a feed from junior forward/midfielder Brogan Pifer (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) at the 60:26 mark to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
West Liberty tied the game on a free kick by Cate Calissie at the 84:59 mark.
Shepherd played the latter part of the match a player down after losing a player who received a pair of yellow cards and was dismissed at the 79:40 mark.
Freshmen goalkeepers Lulu Fricks (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) (0) and Meghan Byers (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) (2) combined for two saves for the Rams. Lauren Hartnell had four saves for the Hilltoppers.
Shots were even at 8-all and West Liberty held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host the University of Charleston for a noon contest.
