SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (3-6-1, 2-3-1 MEC) scored a season-high five goals en route to a 5-4 win over Urbana (2-8-0, 1-6-0 MEC) in MEC women's soccer action at Shepherd on Sunday afternoon.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead when junior forward/midfielder Brogan Pifer (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) scored an unassisted goal at the 6:36 mark.
The Rams took a 2-0 lead when freshman forward Darien Ball (Charleston, W. Va./George Washington) scored at the 18:30 mark.
Shepherd freshman midfielder Katelyn Hart (Monrovia, Md./Home Schooled) scored at the 42:31 mark to up the Shepherd lead to 3-0.
Katelyn Williams scored at the 44:14 mark for the Blue Knights to cut the lead to 3-1 at the break.
Alyssa Edwards added an unassisted goal at the 48:56 mark to make it a 3-2 advantage.
Pifer scored her second goal of the day at the 49:39 mark to extend the lead to 4-2.
Sophomore defender Olivia Dominiski (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) scored on a feed from sophomore defender Katherine Eddy (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) at the 69:14 mark to give the Rams a 5-2 advantage.
Angie Kerth scored on a pass from Abigail Black at the 73:13 mark and Courtney Thierauf found the back of the net of a pass from Kerth for Urbana at the 79:35 mark to complete the scoring.
Freshmen goalkeepers Lulu Fricks (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) (1), Meghan Byers (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) (3), and Caylin Clingan (Myersville, Md./Middletown) (0) combined for four saves for the Rams. Ashton Curnutte posted seven saves in goal for the Blue Knights.
Shepherd had a 14-10 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 5:30 p.m. match.
